Historic Home Primary Bathroom Transformation

Project Overview:

Location: Baltimore, MD

Designing this bathroom required a thoughtful balance of preserving historical features while meeting modern functional needs and creating a more open space with sophistication and vibrant colors.

We maximized the floor plan by creating a private water closet with a space-efficient pocket door. One of the ten-foot windows was replaced with a custom-sized window positioned above one of the new vanities. We designed two custom corner vanities, each flanking the historic fireplace and angled to allow for sink placement and additional storage. One vanity, with its sink beneath the new window, featured a custom fabricated mirror with iron stems creating a floating installation in the window jamb. The opposing vanity was crafted to one of the client’s preferred custom height and extended along the long wall to include a seated makeup area. A state-of-the-art freestanding tub was placed in front of the fireplace, allowing ample clearance on all sides.

Stunning blue and gold glass tiles adorn the shower walls, while a custom blue finish on the vanity cabinets adds the vibrant allure that the client loves. This vibrant color is balanced with large 24×48 off-white floor tiles and creamy walls, perfectly complementing the tones in the fireplace’s tile surround. The light-colored walls and floors, combined with the high ceilings, create an open and airy feeling. Together, these elements achieve a balanced look of sophistication, color, and openness that the clients desired.
