For Owner & Interior Designer, Krista Shugars, beauty is more than visual. It is about people, how they live, and how they want to feel in their homes. “My grandmother was a professional seamstress and upholsterer. My mom learned upholstering from her, and she sewed as a hobby as well. In that way, I have always been around design. It has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.”
Krista started in the corporate world where she built a successful career in sales, leadership, and management. In addition to her knowledge and love for design, Krista credits her former corporate career for much of KD Designs’ success. “Knowing how to curate a design and knowing how to run a business are two very different things. It is a blessing to be able to do both successfully. My past experience has helped set the business foundation in an area I am truly passionate about.” Clients appreciate her excellent business sense, which translates into well-managed expectations, projects and budgets.
Starting as a single-person, independent designer working out of her home in Pasadena, MD, Krista’s business quite literally outgrew that space in a relatively short amount of time. KD Designs now has three additional employees and a beautiful, commercial space in Hanover, MD, to showcase textiles and samples during design presentations with its wonderful clients.
On a personal note, Krista loves working with clients to help them make their homes and lives more beautiful. She is living her best possible life, doing what she loves. Krista has a wonderful, blended family of TEN (that’s the whole crew above!) plus a sweet and lovable Goldendoodle named Nala (like the Lion King) and a newer addition, Scout, who is as ornery as ever. The combined crew now ranges in ages from high school to college graduates who are proudly off of their parents’ payroll. Their home life is busy but full of so many blessings and nicely balanced. When she’s not designing and warmer weather prevails, Krista enjoys relaxing by the water in their outdoor space. The beauty of that setting is timeless, and it is appreciated it every day.
